Senior Corporate Counsel - Top National Construction Company (NoVA - In Office)

Our client is a highly respected builder known for delivering complex, high-profile work across commercial, institutional, and public markets.

The Role

This is a hands-on, deal-focused position for an attorney who enjoys being close to the business. You’ll be the go-to contracts lawyer for project leadership, negotiating the agreements that define how the company’s biggest jobs get built and how risk is shared. The role reports into the head of the legal department and carries meaningful influence over how the company approaches risk on new pursuits.

Responsibilities

• Take the lead on negotiating the company’s major contracts, from agreements with owners and developers to subcontractor, teaming, and design-related agreements
• Help project leadership find the right balance between landing the job and staying within the company’s risk tolerance on key terms
• Act as a day-to-day sounding board for project managers and superintendents once work is underway, helping head off disputes before they start
• Run training sessions that help non-lawyers spot contract issues on their own

Qualifications

• Active bar license and a JD
• Roughly five to seven plus years practicing transactional law
• Comfort running a negotiation from first draft to signature against experienced counterparties
• A collaborative style and experience working shoulder to shoulder with business clients

Preferred Experience

• Background in construction law, including industry-standard form agreements and claims, lien, or surety issues
• Exposure to government contracting at the federal or state level
• Corporate, M&A, or general commercial deal experience
