Job summary

University Health Truman Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri seeks a Senior Cook to lead the kitchen, prepare high-quality meals for patients, staff, and special events, and mentor other cooks to maintain smooth operation.

You will supervise, ensure food safety and presentation standards, coordinate with menu and recipes, and step in during peak times to keep production flowing with care and consistency.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED (required for employees hired on or after May 1, 2006).
• Current Food Handler's Permit from Kansas City, MO, Independence, Jackson County, or Clay County - or willingness to obtain one within 30 days of hire.
• At least two years of experience preparing large quantities of food using standardized recipes.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to direct and support a team in a high-volume setting.
• Clear verbal and written communication skills - you'll be giving direction and working with others closely.
• Physical stamina to bend, twist, push, and lift large containers of hot food in a busy kitchen environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare meals based on menus, production sheets, and standardized recipes for patients, cafeteria patrons, physicians and medical staff, and special functions and events.
• Supervise, mentor, and guide other kitchen staff to ensure quality and timeliness.
• Monitor food quality, portion control, and presentation.
• Operate large commercial kitchen equipment safely and effectively.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary work environment - following food safety guidelines at all times.
• Step in to problem-solve and keep production flowing during peak times.
