Job summary

PremiStar in Buford, GA is seeking a Senior Control System Technician responsible for programming, start-up, troubleshooting, commissioning and servicing Building Automation Systems (BAS) that control commercial HVAC equipment.

You will maintain open communication with customers and supervisors, deliver high quality workmanship, develop relationships, complete tasks on time, and contribute to energy‑efficiency projects while collaborating with the Controls team.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma with a two-year technical training certificate.
  • Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS) required.
  • Strong troubleshooting and commissioning capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Program, start-up, and commissioning of BAS controls.

Based out of Buford, GA and reporting the the Controls Department Manager, the Senior Control System Technician is responsible for completing tasks as assigned by his/her supervisor and the project manager responsible for associated projects. These tasks include: programming, start-up, troubleshooting, commissioning and servicing of Building Automation Systems (BAS) controlling and monitoring commercial building HVAC equipment. This person should also maintain open communications, deliver top quality workmanship, develop customer relationships, and complete tasks/projects timely. The Control System Technician will receive support from the General Manager, Controls Department Manager, Project Manager and other office personnel.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Database development and backups.
  • Downloading programs to controllers.
  • Equipment start-up and check out, including tuning control loops and calibrating field devices.
  • Follow all standard installation procedures.
  • Commission building controls system to meet project design.
  • Ensure start-up/commissioning forms are completed for all projects.
  • Complete project punch lists timely.
  • Coordinate and document customer training.
  • Mark up project drawings to document progress and changes.
  • Meet project deadlines.
  • Assist sales with estimates as needed.
  • Complete service calls as assigned.
Required Education:
  • High School diploma and two-year technical training certificate.
Required Competencies:
  • Advanced System Troubleshooting and Repair: Ability to troubleshoot and repair complex Building Automation Issues or components.
  • Project Management: Oversee the installation, and commissioning of building automation systems. Work with Controls Engineer to ensure programming matches scope and site conditions.
  • Programming & Commissioning:
  • Update floorplan, equipment, and navigation graphics at customer sites.
  • Integrate Devices into BAS based on equipment/device templates
  • Perform functional testing and point-to-point verification of control systems.
  • Technical Leadership: Serve as the primary technical resource for other technicians, resolving escalated issues and providing expertise.
  • BAS System Commissioning: Oversee the commissioning of newly installed systems, ensuring all systems meet performance specifications.
  • Energy Efficiency Analysis: Advise on energy‑saving solutions and system optimization for maximum energy efficiency.
  • Team Leadership and Training: Assist controls manager in developing training and providing feedback to help drive training focus. Provide on‑the‑job training to other technicians.
  • Compliance and Safety Oversight: Ensure all work complies with company safety standards.
  • Budgeting and Cost Estimation: Estimate costs for materials, labor, and project scope for small to mid‑size ($0-$150,000) Building Automation projects.
  • Client Consultation: Provide clients with professional advice on system upgrades, maintenance schedules, and efficiency improvements.
  • Process Improvement: Analyze and recommend process improvements for the controls department to increase efficiency and customer satisfaction.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure all work meets company and industry standards for quality and safety.

Physical Demands

Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including electronic and diagnostic tools, recovery equipment, and various other plumbing equipment. Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials. This position requires: stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, seeing, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those of medium work.

Work Environment

This job operates primarily alone and travels to different work sites each day. May work in tight spaces, typically indoors, but may work outside in poor weather conditions. Vehicles are used as the base of operations.
