Job summary

Kodiak Robotics, Inc. seeks a Controls Software Engineer to design and implement feedback, control, and actuation strategies for autonomous trucks. You will develop a safe, redundant software architecture and model vehicle dynamics for precise motion planning and simulation.

Collaboration with hardware and systems teams is essential to deliver robust control solutions. The role emphasizes safety-critical development, embedded systems, and production-grade C/C++ across a Mountain View office.

Qualifications

• Strong background in robotics, controls, optimization, and mathematics (MS, PhD, or equivalent experience).
• Developed, tested, and tuned controllers for mobile autonomous robots, ideally trucks, cars, or flying vehicles.
• Performed system identification, modeling, simulation, or other characterization for systems with complex dynamics.
• Strong theoretical foundation with practical experience in controls, system modeling, and/or redundant architectures.
• Focus on end-to-end vehicle safety.
• Software development experience writing production-level C or C++.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement feedback, control, and actuation strategies for safety-critical systems.
• Architect, develop, and test reliable, redundant software controlling fully-loaded trucks on the road.
• Characterize vehicle platform to develop models for motion planning, simulation, and controls.
• Address redundant actuation, degraded operation, and fail-safe control issues.
• Collaborate with hardware, motion planning, and systems engineering to deliver robust vehicle control architecture.
