Job summary

Johnson Controls in Colorado Springs is seeking a Controls Service Technician 5 to service, design, configure, and operate complete HVAC building control systems and related low-voltage subsystems. You will develop software, commission systems, and prepare submittals for customers and consultants.

The role requires 10+ years in controls, LON proficiency, knowledge of drawings and protocols like Modbus, and a valid driver’s license; a Bachelor’s in engineering is preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 10 years of experience with programming, installing, and/or commissioning controls systems.
• Must be proficient with LON.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the construction, service mechanical, electrical, or HVAC service industry.
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of mechanical drawings, electrical wiring diagrams, control theory, auto‑temperature controls, building automation systems, and other building subsystems.
• Demonstrated experience integrating low‑voltage building sub‑systems using industry protocols such as Modbus, LON, and BACnet.
• Advanced computer skills, particularly with computer‑related drafting tools such as Visio.
• Must have valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Design, configure, service, and troubleshoot technically complex building control systems at customer facilities.
• Create flow diagrams, sequences of operation, bills of material, network layouts, and electrical schematics as needed for service, repair, or installation work.
• Develop, test, and adjust software programs required to operate systems according to customer facility requirements.
• Coordinate drawings, equipment schedules, and submittals to support service execution and project documentation.
• Load and commission system-level and network-level controllers, then verify complete system functionality.
• Troubleshoot system and field issues with subcontractors and other trades to ensure proper operation.
• Prepare field change information for as-built drawings and software updates.
• Keep management, JCI contractors, and customers informed of job progress, risks, and open issues.
• Support site-specific training for owners and operators on the total building control system.
