Job Summary

Homeland is proud to partner with a leading engineering firm specializing in the design, construction, and operation of advanced research and development facilities. These facilities include cutting-edge systems such as wind tunnels (for aerospace, automotive, and motorsports), rocket test stands, jet engine test cells, climatic chambers, acoustic and altitude test facilities, captive trajectory systems, and nuclear testing environments.

Our client has worked with a prestigious list of global clients, including Audi, Boeing, BMW, Fiat Chrysler, Ford, Honda, General Motors, NASA, the U.S. Air Force and Navy, the U.S. Department of Energy, Volkswagen, and confidential F1 motorsports teams across North America, Europe, and Asia, serving industries like automotive, motorsports, defense, nuclear, and aerospace.

We are currently seeking a Senior-Level Controls & Instrumentation Engineer to join this innovative team. In this role, you’ll contribute to a wide range of projects—from small-scale technical studies to full-scale, multi-million-dollar turnkey systems.

This is a high-impact position ideal for a team-oriented, detail-driven engineer who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. This opportunity offers challenging and diverse work, a dynamic team atmosphere, and the chance to play a key role in delivering mission-critical engineering solutions. You’ll work alongside highly skilled professionals dedicated to innovation, client satisfaction, and project success—on time and within budget.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of hardware assembly and wiring diagrams for control and data acquisition systems
  • Oversee the creation of control system software to manage variables such as temperature, pressure, humidity, flow, force, motion, safety systems, and other complex electromechanical processes
  • Develop control software using PLC ladder logic, function block programming, and HMI interfaces
  • Design interfaces to facility equipment using both hardwired connections and industrial communication networks
  • Apply classical and modern closed-loop control methods to continuously variable systems
  • Ensure quality by reviewing work, adhering to standard procedures, and maintaining compliance with relevant codes and industry standards
  • Direct on-site startup, checkout, and commissioning efforts—both domestically and internationally
  • Collaborate across engineering disciplines and internal departments to drive project success
  • Plan labor resources and schedule project milestones to ensure delivery within scope, budget, and timeline
  • Contribute to business development by preparing proposals and identifying opportunities with current and prospective clients
  • Lead control and data acquisition projects through all phases—design, fabrication, implementation, testing, and commissioning
  • Mentor and support junior and mid-level engineers in both technical and business development practices

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Mechatronics, or Computer Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in control or data acquisition system design, implementation, and commissioning
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) is a plus
  • Proven experience as a lead engineer, including resource management, budgeting, scheduling, and cross-disciplinary coordination
  • Proficient in high-level programming environments such as C, C++, C#, or engineering tools like LabVIEW, MATLAB, and SIMULINK/SIMSCAPE
  • Skilled in PLC and HMI software development within major platforms (e.g., Rockwell Studio 5000, Siemens TIA Portal, Emerson PC ME); familiarity with additional platforms and PlantPAx is a plus
  • Strong background in selecting and specifying control hardware, process instrumentation, PLCs, drive/motion systems, DAQ systems, network hardware, cabling, and related equipment
  • Solid mathematical foundation, with ability to develop data uncertainty models, digital filtering, control algorithms, and process simulations
  • Demonstrated ability to lead single- and multi-discipline engineering teams in delivering high-performance, often one-of-a-kind control and data systems
  • Passion for innovation and creative problem-solving throughout all phases of engineering projects
  • Strong mentoring skills to support and guide junior and mid-level engineers
  • US Citizenship is required

Our client offers a comprehensive benefits package to support the health and wellbeing and financial security of our employees. They provide shared-cost medical, dental and vision coverage, as well as company-paid life insurance and short-term disability benefits. You will have access to paid time off, holidays and leave options for personal and family needs. They also offer a 401K plan with immediate eligibility and a generous company match. Additional benefits include tax-advantage spending accounts, tuition reimbursement, wellness resources, professional development, and employee recognition programs.
