Job summary

Wunderlich-Malec Engineering, Inc. in Tigard, OR is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer with Rockwell/Allen-Bradley experience to lead PLC, HMI, and SCADA integration projects. You will develop control logic, UI applications, and system documentation for multi-industry clients.

Responsibilities include startup support, debugging, and guiding junior engineers while traveling up to 25% to job sites and working in varied environments, including cleanrooms per semiconductor protocols.

Qualifications

BSEE or BS in Controls Engineering preferred; AA with equivalent experience may be substituted.
5–10 years in control systems, ladder logic, SCADA and related applications.
Experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs and VFDs is required or beneficial.
Experience with Ignition or GE Cimplicity SCADA; scripting is a plus.
Ability to travel up to 25% and to work in cleanroom/industrial settings.

Responsibilities

Develops control logic software and user interface applications.
Assists with startup, debugging, and documentation of integrated systems.
Leads automation projects for clients across semiconductor, pulp, paper, and food industries.
Collaborates with team with minimal supervision and mentors juniors.
Interprets ISA standards and ensures proper electrical/piping diagrams are followed.
Supports project closeout, site commissioning, and customer acceptance testing.
Performs general administration tasks and maintains project records.

We have a Senior Controls Engineer – Rockwell Systems Integration position available in our Tigard, OR office. This position is geared towards a systems integrator with experience programming Rockwell / Allen Bradley control systems and Ignition or GE SCADA applications. This person will be responsible for systems integration project requirements involving PLC programming, HMI programming, SCADA development, instrumentation, check-out support, and start-up assistance.

Major Responsibilities

Develops control logic software and user interface applications.
Will assist with initial start-up and debug integrated systems and the development of system documentation
Individual will be working on automation and control system integration projects for clients in industries such as semiconductor, pulp and paper, food and beverage, etc.
Works well with others and self-directed with only general supervision.
Works in a cleanroom environment per semi-conductor protocols/requirements
Understands piping and instrument diagrams, wiring diagrams, panel drawings, one-line drawings, loop sheets, databases and vendor manuals. Interpret and utilize appropriate ISA standards and practices.
Will act as technical lead on projects and guide lower-level engineers and technicians
General administration such as paperwork, copying, printing, faxing, and using a computer

Minimum Requirements

Education BSEE or BS in Controls Engineering is preferred. An AA in Engineering Technology or equivalent with equivalent experience may be substituted.

Experience Five to ten years in areas below is preferred:

An in-depth understanding of control systems, components, ladder logic programming, SCADA programming and their applications
Experience with PLC programming of Allen Bradley PLCs (Rockwell 5, 500, 5000, Device Net, Point I/O, additional experience in GE or other PLC platforms is a plus)
Experience with VFD programming (Preferably Allen-Bradley or ABB VFDs)
Experience with Ignition or GE Cimplicity SCADA systems (Python and SQL scripting experience is a plus)
Experience with the development of sequence of operations, functional acceptance, and operational acceptance documentation
Experience with PID loop tuning (Open and Closed Loops)
Must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to travel up to 25% to job sites

Seeing, color perception, hearing, clear speech, dexterity in hands, driving, lifting, climbing, and ability to mount and dismount equipment, pushing, and pulling.
