Job summary

Elgin Sweeper Company seeks an experienced Controls Engineer to lead embedded controller software development for mobile machinery and to design electrical schematics and wiring harnesses. The role also covers HMI applications and diagnostics, with leadership in design reviews and verification.

You will translate requirements into robust controls architectures, manage version control, and mentor junior engineers. Expect travel to customer sites and trade shows as needed.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of controls engineering experience on mobile machinery, vehicles, or industrial equipment.
• Experience in embedded controls programming and electrical design.
• Familiarity with functional safety and cybersecurity concepts is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop, test, and release embedded controller software including interlocks, sequencing, fault handling, and CAN J1939 and Ethernet communications.
• Translate requirements into controls architecture, libraries, and diagnostic functions.
• Design and release electrical schematics and vehicle wiring harnesses.
• Design operator display/HMI applications and onboard diagnostics.
• Lead technical reviews, mentor staff, and perform verification at bench and vehicle levels.
