Job summary

Carpenter Technology Corporation seeks an Electrical Engineer III – Controls to lead automation projects in the steel industry. You will design, program, and optimize control systems, and coordinate with maintenance and OEMs to ensure reliable operation.

The role requires hands-on experience with PLCs, HMI development, and networked automation, with emphasis on safety and quality standards in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or related field.
• 5+ years in controls and automation industry.
• Experience in the steel automation industry.
• Problem-solving skills.
• Familiarity with engineering-related software.
• Knowledge of lean principles.
• PLC Programming is required.
• Familiarity with Rockwell and Siemens controllers is preferred.
• HMI development is required.
• Familiarity with Aveva InTouch is preferred.
• AC and DC drive knowledge required.
• Expertise with EtherNet/IP, Industrial Ethernet and Profibus Networks is valuable.
• Knowledge of automated equipment systems, robotics, and material handling is preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, well organized and prioritize tasks.
• Willing to work in a fast paced, ever-changing environment.

Responsibilities

• Design and development: identify needs, analyze data, implement control solutions.
• Technical support and mentorship to team members; work with maintenance.
• System configuration and optimization; define requirements; liaise with end-users and OEMs.
• Project management: oversee projects, installation, testing, commissioning, costs and schedules.
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
