Job summary

Carpenter Technology Corporation’s Hartsville Operations in McBee, SC seeks an Electrical Engineer III – Controls to lead CAPEX projects, design and deploy automation systems, and mentor the team. You will manage project costs, schedules and vendor interfaces, supervise installation and commissioning, and ensure safety and quality across processes.

Requirements: bachelor’s in electrical engineering or related field; 5+ years in controls/automation (steel experience preferred); PLC/HMI

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field required.
• 5+ years in controls and automation; steel automation experience preferred.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Familiarity with engineering software and lean principles.
• PLC programming required; Rockwell/Siemens controllers preferred.
• HMI development required; Aveva InTouch preferred.
• AC/DC drive knowledge expected; network knowledge beneficial.
• Good written and verbal communication; organized with good prioritization.
• Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop control systems to meet company needs.
• Analyze data and implement solutions to improve efficiency.
• Provide technical support and mentorship to teammates.
• Configure and optimize control systems; define system requirements.
• Lead CAPEX projects and supervise installation, testing, and commissioning.
• Manage project costs, schedules, and budgets; liaise with OEMs.
• Develop business cases for automation upgrades; ensure safety and quality.
