Job Summary:
The Senior Controls Engineer is responsible for developing and maintaining systems that support both hardware and software aspects of motion control, SCADA, and automation projects. This role will collaborate closely with the maintenance and operations teams to enhance safety protocols, minimize downtime, and drive business advancement through modernization and digitization initiatives.
Location: Shawano WI (relocation benefits within the US available)
Schedule: Onsite, First shift
Travel: Up to 5%
Key Responsibilities:
Solve complex control engineering challenges and program using various styles (e.g., ladder logic, structured text)
Communicate design standards, implementation strategies, and best practices to partners
Maintain proper documentation of technology platforms and collaborate with teams to reduce downtime
Design, select, manage, program, and commission automation equipment to improve systems
Implement Advanced Process Control Systems and debug PLC programs; interface control systems with HMI, MES, and SQL database systems
Identify opportunities to enhance safety, reduce costs, increase efficiency, and improve quality
Mentor and train others to improve safety, reduce downtime, and expand off-hour support resources
Assist in troubleshooting when issues are escalated
What You Will Need:
Bachelor’s Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) or commensurate experience
Five plus years of professional experience with automation and control systems design
High level of proficiency working with PLC Hardware, PLC programming, automation controls, and Control Systems
Ability to contribute on large scale projects.
Knowledge of Electrical Standards (NFPA79, National Electric code, UL508A)
Knowledge of Safety standards (ANSI B11/RIA 15, OSHA)
Good working knowledge of CAD for updating and creating electrical drawings
Applicable knowledge of HMI and programming languages
“Nice to Have” Experience:
Experience with multiple PLC languages
Experience in Power Systems and Power Electronics.
Proficiency programming and tuning variable frequency drives
Steel plant or similar industrial experience
Experience in fast-paced iterative design and manufacturing environments
Knowledge of Industrial Ethernet networks, Wireless Networks, and field bus networking.
Experience with motion control systems consisting of motors, drives, and encoders
Knowledge of cyber-security protocols and methods to ensure systems are secure and protected
