Job summary

Körber is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to develop control system designs, deploy PLC code and create GUIs for material handling systems. You will test, troubleshoot on-site, and collaborate across engineering disciplines to support network architecture and system performance.

You will lead controls teams on large projects, manage scope and schedule with the project manager, and mentor peers while ensuring adherence to timelines and budgets in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering or related field required.
• 7+ years of work experience in material handling or similar industry; master’s may substitute with 5+ years.
• Experience with Rockwell Automation PLC programming, including GuardLogix.
• Experience with Ethernet/IP network architecture.
• Experience interpreting electrical schematic drawings and HMI programming.
• Proven experience leading teams of controls engineers on large, complex projects.
• Experience in adhering to project timelines and budgets in industrial machine control.
• Strong leadership, communication and customer service skills; thrive in fast-paced environments.
• Travel up to 70% of the year for project rotations.

Responsibilities

• Develop control system designs and PLC code, and create GUIs for material handling systems.
• Test and emulate code functionality before on-site deployment.
• Troubleshoot PLC code and electrical equipment on-site during commissioning.
• Collaborate with Electrical Engineering and other disciplines on control network architecture.
• Support Project Manager in controlling scope, schedule, and budget; identify changes and risks.
• Define electrical device requirements for system control.
• Develop documentation outlining system control functionality and operation.
• Support estimates for complex module development and system commissioning.
• Review customer standards and specifications to determine system requirements.
• Develop recommendations for productivity improvements and cost reductions.
• Complete software quality processes through complex testing procedures.
• Mentor other controls engineers technically and professionally.

The Senior Controls Engineer will develop control system designs, deploy and commission PLC code, and create graphical user interfaces for material handling systems. This role will collaborate with Mechanical and Electrical Engineering resources, providing feedback related to design requirements supporting system functionality. This role also defines and leads system commissioning responsibilities during project implementation phases.

Your role in our team

• You will develop control system designs, develop, deploy, & commission Programmable Logic Controller code, and develop graphical user interfaces for material handling systems
• You will test and emulate code functionality before on-site deployment and testing
• You will troubleshoot PLC code and electrical equipment functionality on-site during commissioning and testing activities
• You will collaborate with Electrical Engineering and other Engineering disciplines to support control network architecture requirements, design development, and execution
• You will support the Project Manager in controlling the scope, schedule, and budget. Additionally, assist with identifying potential changes and mitigating controls related risks
• You will define electrical device requirements for system control
• You will develop documentation outlining system control functionality and operation
• You will support estimates for complex module development and system commissioning requirements
• You will perform reviews of complex customer standards, specifications, and other documentation to determine system requirements
• You will develop recommendations for ideas related to productivity improvement, cost reduction, and improvement in customer satisfaction
• You will complete the software quality process through the execution of complex module, subsystem, and system test procedures
• You will mentor other controls engineers technically and professionally

Your profile

• You have obtained a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related field (required)
• You have gained seven (7) years of work experience in the material handling industry or a similar industry (required); a master’s degree may be considered in lieu of experience, in which at least 5 years of work experience is required
• You have experience with Rockwell Automation PLC programming, including GuardLogix; Siemens TIA Portal PLC programming, including Starter
• You have experience with Ethernet/IP network architecture.
• You have experience interpreting electrical schematic drawings and understanding HMI programming.
• You have proven experience leading teams of controls engineers in large, complex material handling projects
• You have experience in adhering to project timelines and budgets, with a background in industrial machine control development and troubleshooting
• You have strong leadership, communication, and customer service skills, with a proven ability to thrive in fast-paced environments and consistently deliver results on time
• You can travel up to 70% of the year, working short-duration assignments up to and including multiple 10/4 rotations, depending on the project requirements
