Job Description

BHS Robotics is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to join our growing team in Hanover Park, IL! This is an on-site position requiring up to 20% travel.

SUMMARY

The Senior Controls Engineer will assist in the conceptualization and design process, supporting the development of electrical designs, drawings, programming, commissioning, and installation of vision-guided, robotic, automated equipment solutions. This is an on-site position with up to 20% travel required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams during project development, including conceptual design, electrical drawing design, programming, commissioning, installation, and control system implementation.
• Create BOMs according to project requirements, working with internal/external purchasing, sales, distributors, and manufacturers to ensure materials meet specifications and schedules.
• Support the panel shop from concept to final build, providing guidance to equipment assembly departments to ensure design flow and build compliance.
• Apply listening skills to incorporate updates based on customer needs during development and build processes.
• Provide aftermarket support, including travel to customer sites and training personnel on equipment.
• Follow safety regulations to maintain a safe working environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical or controls engineering, or equivalent proficiency in robotics automation.
• Minimum of five years of electrical and/or controls engineering experience.
• Experience with electrical drawing design using AutoCAD LT or Eplan.
• Advanced programming skills for controls equipment including PLCs, robot controllers, vision systems, HMIs, VFDs, servo drives, and networks (Ethernet, Profibus, DeviceNet).
• Proficiency in Rockwell Automation platforms such as Studio 5000, RSLogix, FactoryTalk View, and Connected Components.
• Understanding of electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic components.
• Proficient in MS Office products.
• Experience with robotics, including design and programming for Motoman/Yaskawa, Fanuc, ABB.
• Knowledge of vision systems and barcode readers like Cognex, Keyence, or others.
• Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time.
• Ability to work at a computer for up to 8 hours daily.
• Physical ability to lift up to 20 pounds, stand for extended periods, crouch, and work in a noisy environment.
