Job summary

Schreiber Foods, Inc. is hiring a Controls Engineer or Senior Controls Engineer to optimize electrical, instrumentation, and controls in our Carthage, MO manufacturing campus.

This role focuses on improving productivity, quality, and capacity through automation projects and safe, compliant operation. You will lead SCADA/HMI/MES initiatives, mentor maintenance staff, and collaborate with contractors while upholding Enterprise Project Management standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Typically requires 5–7 years of professional experience in electrical and controls engineering in industrial/manufacturing settings.
  • Deep understanding of SCADA with Ignition platform (Vision and Perspective).
  • Strong experience with control system programming, electrical design, power distribution, and equipment installations.
  • Ability to read electrical drawings, schematics, and automation documentation.
  • Proven ability to identify issues, develop practical solutions, and implement them.
  • Strong communication skills to explain technical concepts in business terms.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally in a team environment.
  • Willingness to support operations during non-typical hours.

Responsibilities

  • Execute Electrical, Instrumentation, and Controls projects against cost, schedule, and performance commitments.
  • Coach and train plant maintenance teams on electrical automation topics.
  • Manage and oversee performance of electrical and engineering contractors.
  • Improve production efficiency and uptime through controls optimization opportunities.
  • Monitor and maintain plant control systems including network health and obsolescence management.
  • Establish and maintain electrical, automation, and controls standards.
  • Develop SCADA/HMI/MES/data reporting solutions using scripting and databases for performance and safety improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with Food Safety and Food Quality Plans and customer requirements.
  • Communicate customer requirements to production/support groups.
  • Audit PCPs, CCPs, and SOPs to ensure processes meet requirements.

Job Category: Engineering Job Family: Systems & Controls Engineering Job Description: The purpose of this position is to provide productivity, quality, and capacity improvements within an automated food manufacturing environment through control systems optimization, maintenance automation training, production support, and execution of capital projects. Additionally, this individual will be responsible for ensuring that engineering and safety standards are followed, evaluating and applying new and emerging technologies, and leveraging an external view to obtain superior business results. We have the opportunity to hire for a Controls Engineer or Senior Controls Engineer based on experience. This role is 100% on-site at our Carthage, Missouri manufacturing facility.

What you’ll do:
  • Execute Electrical, Instrumentation, and Controls projects against commitments (cost, schedule, and performance) while adhering to Schreiber’s Enterprise Project Management (EPM) principles.
  • Coach and train plant maintenance team members on electrical automation topics.
  • Manage and oversee performance of electrical and engineering contractors.
  • Improve production efficiency and uptime through identification and implementation of controls optimization opportunities.
  • Proactively monitor and maintain plant control systems including: network health, controller functionality, obsolesce management.
  • Establish and maintain electrical, automation, and controls related standards.
  • Develop Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Human-Machine Interface (HMI), Manufacturing Execution System (MES), and data reporting/dashboard solutions utilizing scripting and database systems to realize performance and safety improvements through operations systems.
  • Together with the leadership team, ensures compliance with Food Safety and Food Quality Plans, in addition to customer requirements.
  • Interprets and communicates customer requirements to plant production and/or support groups.
  • Establishes and Audits PCPs, CCPs and Standard Operating Procedures to define and monitor processes, to ensure customer requirements are met.
  • Reviews incidents during which the procedures are not met, and determines appropriate corrective action for partners failing to follow standard procedures.
What you need to succeed:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Typically requires a minimum of 5–7 years of professional experience in electrical and controls engineering within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Deep understanding of SCADA , specifically the Ignition platform, both Vision and Perspective.
  • Strong experience with control system programming, electrical system design, power distribution, and equipment installations.
  • Proficiency reading and interpreting electrical drawings, schematics, and automation documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify issues, develop practical solutions, and implement through completion.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts in a business context.
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional, team-based environment.
  • Willingness to support operations during non-typical hours as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience with electrical control system programming, electrical system design, power distribution, project management, and equipment installations.
  • Experience with dairy processing and packaging applications.
  • Programming experience with Rockwell Logix 5000 PLCs, motion control, PanelView HMIs, and Ignition SCADA.
  • Proven leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience managing direct reports.
  • Expertise across multiple technologies and ability to effectively provide project work direction to a broad range of team members.
