Job summary

Harmony Housing Affordable Development seeks a Controller to lead HHAD's accounting for corporate and development operations. You will mentor teams, drive internal controls, and partner with Harmony Housing's corporate accounting on timely reporting and close processes.

Responsibilities include budgeting, cash flow, lender relations, and capital deployment oversight for LIHTC projects. A CPA and 10+ years' experience are preferred for this senior role based in Raleigh with hybrid options.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or similar discipline required; Master's degree preferred.
• CPA strongly preferred.
• 10+ years progressive accounting experience, including at least five years in a leadership role.
• Extensive experience in affordable housing development, LIHTC partnerships, treasury management, multi-entity accounting, construction accounting, and project finance.
• Experience with complex capital structures, including LIHTC equity, tax-exempt bonds, HOME, CDBG, USDA, HUD, State and local financing, soft debt, and deferred developer fees.
• Experience with construction accounting, job cost tracking, construction draw processes, and development/project financing structures required.
• Advanced proficiency in Excel and accounting software experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead all accounting functions supporting HHAD's corporate and development operations.
• Recruit, mentor, and develop property and development accounting teams.
• Serve as principal accounting advisor to HHAD Executive Leadership Team and Harmony Housing's Corporate Accounting team.
• Evaluate project feasibility, profitability, capital structure, financial risk, and deployment strategies.
• Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures and internal controls.
• Develop KPIs, closing calendars, and reporting metrics for timely, accurate results.
• Lead accounting technology initiatives and automation to improve scalability.
• Coordinate with Asset Management, Construction, Development, Finance, and Legal.
• Partner with Corporate Accounting to ensure timely monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting and close processes.
• Manage budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, and banking relationships.
• Monitor intercompany accounting, board reporting, and fund flows; support acquisition and closings.
• Integrate new properties into HHAD reporting; ensure GAAP and tax credit compliance.
• Lead LIHTC cost certifications, 8609 issuance, partnership accounting with external tax advisors.
