Job summary

Spot On Talent seeks a Senior Controller for a Dallas-based, multi-property portfolio. The role centers on the full accounting function, treasury, and internal controls, working with property management, asset management, ownership, and executives to drive accurate numbers and sound governance.

You will lead a team, shape the close process, and participate in acquisitions, dispositions, and refinancing, ensuring GAAP compliance and strong internal controls across entities.

Qualifications

• Must have CPA credential.
• At least 8 years of progressive accounting experience with supervisory responsibility.
• At least 5 years in commercial real estate or property management accounting, including tiered investment structures.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, and commercial lease accounting.
• Hands-on experience with CAM reconciliations, budgeting, cash management, and audit coordination.
• Experience with Yardi, MRI, or RealPage as a property accounting system.

Responsibilities

• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close for managed properties and corporate entities, including review of balance sheets, income statements, cash flow reports, and reconciliations.
• Maintain GAAP compliance and adherence to management agreements and ownership requirements.
• Oversee intercompany accounting and resolve complex issues, including lease accounting and acquisition or disposition activity.
• Manage daily cash positions, bank relationships, distributions, transfers, and reserve funding, with strong controls over payments and authorized users.
• Build and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls, and address process risk proactively.
• Lead and mentor an accounting manager, and manage close calendars, workflows, and department capacity.
• Support onboarding of newly managed properties, including system conversions and process integration.
• Partner with the investor and client side on due diligence, refinancing, dispositions, and other strategic initiatives.

A growing commercial real estate ownership and management firm in Dallas is looking for a Senior Controller to sit at the center of accounting, treasury, and controls for a portfolio of managed properties and corporate entities, working directly with property management, asset management, ownership, and executive leadership. You’ll lead a team, shape the close process, and have a real seat at the table during acquisitions, dispositions, and refinancing.

This role owns the full accounting function for a multi-property, multi-entity portfolio. You’ll be the person ownership and executive leadership turn to for accurate numbers, sound controls, and clear answers, and you’ll mentor an accounting manager who’s ready to grow into more.

What you’ll do

What we’re looking for

Must-haves:

• CPA
• At least 8 years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory or management responsibility, with exposure to institutional, private equity, or third-party management reporting
• At least 5 years of commercial real estate or property management accounting experience, including tiered investment structures
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, and commercial lease accounting
• Hands-on experience with CAM reconciliations, budgeting, cash management, and audit coordination
• Experience with a commercial property accounting system such as Yardi, MRI, or RealPage

Nice-to-haves:

• Familiarity with investor reporting, acquisitions, dispositions, debt compliance, and development accounting
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to translate financial matters for nonaccounting audiences

The details

Full-time, in-office in Dallas, TX. Limited travel for property visits, audits, meetings, or portfolio transitions.
