Job summary

Berkley Southeast, a Berkley Company, is seeking a Controller to oversee accounting functions and financial reporting across our Mississippi operations. The role focuses on GAAP and regulatory reporting, monthly closes, reconciliations, budgeting support, tax work, and internal controls in an insurance environment.

Qualifications

• Min of five years of accounting experience in an insurance environment.
• Advanced knowledge/skill in reinsurance, GL, statutory and GAAP reporting, taxes and statistical reporting.
• Strong working knowledge of Excel, Hyperion and other data management tools, including pivot tables & V lookups.
• Experience with Peoplesoft software (GL, Fixed Assets, Accounts Payable) a plus.
• CPA preferred or advanced insurance accounting education, such as AIAF, CPCU, and other commensurate experience.
• Successfully completed INS designation.
• Performance appraisal – attain Exceeds Expectations rating and achieve major objectives.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily, weekly and monthly accounting tasks and financial reporting.
• Safeguard company assets and ensure regulatory compliance, producing reliable data.
• Oversee monthly close, reconciliations, SOX compliance, manage projects, train staff and review their work.
• Maintain and provide GAAP financials and reports to WRBC.
• Provide information to auditors and regulatory bodies as required.
• Assist annual budgeting process and provide monthly variance analysis.
• Prepare and provide required tax reports and calculations to WRBC.
• Act as a backup for the CFO in absence of the role.
• Other duties/projects as assigned.
