Job summary

Knexus, a government-focused AI company, seeks a hands-on Controller to manage day-to-day accounting in a fast-growing environment. You will report to the VP of Finance and Administration and act as the solo finance leader, overseeing close, GAAP reporting, controls, and compliance while partnering with leadership.

The ideal candidate has 5–10 years of accounting experience, GovCon familiarity (DCAA preferred), CPA or pursuing certification, and a proven ability to own the full accounting cycle,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in accounting/finance.
• 5–10 years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong GAAP knowledge and financial reporting.
• Experience owning the full accounting cycle independently.
• GovCon accounting familiarity (DCAA) preferred.
• Experience supporting audits and working with external auditors.
• ERP systems proficiency and advanced Excel skills.
• Detail-oriented with strong organization and prioritization.
• CPA or pursuing certification required.

Responsibilities

• Perform and oversee day-to-day accounting functions including GL, AP/AR, payroll, and revenue recognition.
• Own monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for timely reporting.
• Prepare and maintain GAAP-compliant financial statements.
• Manage cash flow, reconciliations, and overall financial health.
• Establish and maintain internal controls and policies.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning with leadership.
• Coordinate external audits, tax filings, and reviews.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Support GovCon accounting requirements, cost tracking, indirect rates, and audit readiness (DCAA).
• Identify process improvements and system efficiencies.
