Job summary

AmaWaterways is seeking an Assistant Controller, Cost & Capital Accounting in Calabasas, CA. This role leads cost and capital accounting for ship operating costs, capital projects and accounts payable, ensuring accurate, timely reporting and strong internal controls.

Requirements include a CPA, 8+ years accounting (3+ in leadership), US GAAP and IFRS knowledge, and NetSuite and Excel proficiency. AI-based process improvements are encouraged.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA required.
• 8+ years accounting experience; 3+ years supervising teams.
• Cost accounting, fixed assets and capital project accounting experience.
• US GAAP and IFRS experience required, as AmaWaterways reports under both.
• Experience designing and implementing internal controls; lease accounting under US GAAP ASC 842 and IFRS 16.
• Experience overseeing accounts payable and offshore or outsourced teams; offshore processing.
• Hands-on NetSuite experience; advanced Excel.
• Strong analytical and communication skills.
• Public accounting experience preferred.
• Experience in travel, hospitality, shipping or consumer-facing industries is a plus.
• Interest in AI enablement and applying AI tools to improve finance work.
• Comfortable operating with imperfect information and sound judgment; fast-paced, high-expectation environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead cost accounting across ships, sailings and departments.
• Own capital accounting, including project tracking, capitalization decisions, fixed asset additions and depreciation.
• Oversee accounts payable end to end and offshore processing.
• Oversee lease accounting under US GAAP (ASC 842) and IFRS (IFRS 16).
• Provide monthly cost reporting and insights to the Controller.
• Support audit, tax and treasury requests related to costs, fixed assets and capital projects.
