Job summary

LanceDB Inc. is seeking a senior Controller to own the company’s accounting function and build the financial infrastructure needed for the next growth stage. You will partner with the Leadership team, GTM and Engineering to ensure reliable closes, strong controls, and timely financial information.

As the first Controller, you will establish scalable processes, systems and the team to support LanceDB through its next growth phases and potential fundraising, audits, and international expansion.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Proven track record of building accounting functions, systems, processes and controls.
• Strong technical accounting foundation and deep understanding of US GAAP.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, ambiguous and highly collaborative environment.
• Strong business judgment and the ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution.
• Experience partnering cross-functionally with Legal, People, Operations and executive leadership.
• Experience hiring, developing and managing an accounting team.

Responsibilities

• Own day-to-day accounting operations (AP, AR, payroll accounting, fixed assets, accruals, prepaids, GL).
• Lead monthly, quarterly and annual close processes and prepare financial statements.
• Own and improve the financial systems and technology stack for scalability and efficiency.
• Oversee tax and compliance with external advisors across federal, state, and local requirements.
• Scale the accounting function for fundraising, audits, and expansion.
• Partner with CFO and leaders to translate financial issues into actionable insights.
• Build and lead the accounting team and manage outsourced accounting relationships.
