Job description

John Anthony Wine & Spirits is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Controller to lead our accounting and compliance functions. This role is responsible for overseeing financial reporting, overseeing regulatory compliance, and implementing strong internal controls. Additionally, the Senior Controller will play a critical role in cost accounting, inventory management, and process improvements to support the company’s financial health and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and industry-specific financial reporting standards.
  • Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements and reports.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Lead cost accounting efforts, including product costing, variance analysis, and profitability assessments.
  • Maintain inventory valuation, cost bulk inventory tracking, and financial reconciliation for winery operations.
  • Collaborate with the finance and operations teams to streamline accounting processes and improve efficiency.
  • Manage external audits and liaise with auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning initiatives.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to executive leadership for strategic decision-making.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with a focus on compliance and cost accounting.
  • Experience in the wine industry is required.
  • Experience managing and mentoring Accounting personnel
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial controls, and regulatory reporting.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (QB), ERP systems, Innovint and Excel.
  • Overseen account software implementations
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects while working cross-functionally with various departments.
Salary Range

$175-200k annually, plus bonus potential
