Job summary

BAE Systems, Inc. in Norfolk, Virginia, seeks a Director of Contracts to lead the Contracts function for the Norfolk Maritime Solutions unit.

The role is 100% onsite in Norfolk, VA to support business needs. You will guide contract formation, negotiation, and administration, mentor contracts professionals, and influence cross‑functional teams while aligning with customer expectations and corporate objectives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree and 12 years of work experience or equivalent experience.
• Experience in Contracts Management, including process improvement and risk management.
• Experienced in Contract Lifecycle, including prime and subcontracts, from proposal phase to contract closeout.
• Experience in People Management, including leading and developing contracts professionals.
• Experience in Defense Contracting including cost types, firm fixed price, time‑and‑materials, and services contracts.
• Experience in Commercial Contracts.
• Knowledge of FAR and DFAR.
• Ability to effect and manage change.
• Strong reading and analytical skills for business periodicals, journals, solicitations, or government regulations.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a key part of the senior business management team for Norfolk Maritime Solutions.
• Lead contract formation, negotiation, and administration policies and processes aligned with customer expectations and corporate objectives.
• Provide hands‑on leadership and front‑line contract management when needed.
• Offer guidance and coaching to Contracts professionals, including complex contracts of strategic importance.
• Influence career development and training opportunities for contract staff to enhance capability and performance.
• Provide expertise to cross‑functional team members and leadership.
• Lead discussions and briefings with leadership, participate in negotiations, and develop contract strategies to mitigate risk.
• Ensure smooth information flow among Contracts, leadership, cross‑functional teams, and customers.
• Establish or update contract policies to meet corporate expectations and business needs.
• Understand business impact, financial considerations, and profit and loss implications.
• Participate in development of alliances, acquisitions, divestitures, and risk management.
