The role requires 7+ years in contract management, strong negotiation skills, and experience with ERP systems. Primary location is Houston, TX, with direct-hire employment and a focus on risk-aware, data-driven decision making.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of contract management or related supply chain/procurement work.
  • Experience negotiating complex agreements, including service and master service agreements.
  • Strong understanding of commercial terms and contract risk structures.
  • Proven communication, stakeholder management, and influencing skills.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools (including spreadsheets).
  • Experience with ERP systems and contract management platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Own the full contract lifecycle for complex agreements from strategy to closeout.
  • Lead contract negotiations and provide risk-based recommendations.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to align contracting strategies with objectives.
  • Support sourcing activities with bid documentation and evaluations.
  • Drive standardization of templates, processes, and approval routing.
  • Develop and maintain contract performance metrics and reporting.

  • Provide SME on interpretation, deviations, and compliance expectations.
  • Coordinate terms (scope, pricing, insurance, indemnity, termination) with partners.
  • Mentor junior team members on negotiation strategy and documentation quality.
  • Maintain accurate contract records and reporting in tools.
  • Monitor market and supplier risk trends affecting contracting and execution.

Sr. Contracts Specialist

Our client, a well-established organization in the energy sector, is seeking a Sr. Contracts Specialist to join their team. This role provides senior-level contract management support across complex, high-value agreements, from strategy through negotiation and execution. The Sr. Contracts Specialist will partner closely with cross-functional stakeholders to support operational and project needs while helping drive standardization and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Own the full contract lifecycle for complex agreements, including strategy, drafting, negotiation, execution, amendments, renewals, closeout, and record retention
  • Lead contract negotiations and provide risk-based recommendations to resolve commercial and contractual issues
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to develop contracting strategies aligned to business objectives, operational needs, and risk standards
  • Support sourcing activities by assisting with bid documentation, commercial evaluations, award recommendations, and negotiation planning
  • Drive standardization of contract templates, processes, workflows, and approval routing to improve consistency and cycle times
  • Develop and maintain contract performance metrics and reporting to improve visibility, compliance, and efficiency
  • Use data and KPI trends to identify gaps and lead process improvements across contract throughput, data quality, renewals, and audit readiness
  • Provide subject matter expertise on contract interpretation, deviations, change management, and compliance expectations
  • Coordinate key terms and risk provisions (scope, pricing, payment, insurance, indemnity, liability limits, warranties, termination, confidentiality, HSE, and regulatory obligations) with internal partners as needed
  • Mentor and support junior team members on negotiation strategy, documentation quality, and best practices
  • Maintain accurate contract records and reporting through contract management and document tools
  • Monitor relevant market and supplier risk trends that may impact contracting and execution
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years of experience in contract management or related supply chain/procurement work
  • Experience negotiating complex agreements, including service agreements, master service agreements, purchase agreements, construction agreements, and professional services agreements
  • Strong understanding of commercial terms and conditions and contract risk structures
  • Proven communication, stakeholder management, and influencing skills
  • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools (including spreadsheet and dashboard/reporting tools)
  • Experience with contract management systems and document management platforms
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong analytical and strategic problem-solving skills with the ability to make objective, risk-based decisions
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction and maintain regular, reliable attendance
  • Industry experience supporting industrial operations, engineering, construction, maintenance, or project services is preferred
  • Professional certification (contract/procurement) is a plus
  • Experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems is a plus
