Job description

Job Description

As a member of Horizon Media’s Futures Group, the Senior Content Editor develops and leads a cohesive storytelling strategy that elevates the practice and the organization—editing, shaping, and publishing work that drives press coverage, new business inquiries, and partnership opportunities. This role designs and delivers thought leadership by bringing research to life through sharp narrative, sophisticated data visualization, and strong visual systems, with fluency in advanced design tools and AI‑enabled workflows.

The Senior Content Editor also plays a critical role in managing the communications and platforms that support Horizon’s thought leadership and market positioning. This person is a standout writer and digital content strategist with a strong pulse on emerging technology and digital/social best practices, paired with a refined eye for the aesthetics and craft of modern content creation and curation.

As a Center of Excellence within Horizon Media, the team develops a deep understanding of people, brands, and culture, using a range of datasets (behavioral, syndicated, spending, viewership, social, attitudinal and cultural) to create strategic studies and thought pieces that inform business decision‑making for clients.

A significant amount of content is currently available on a public‑facing platform called Horizon Futures. The Senior Content Editor will lead the charge to expand the volume to include thought leadership from other departments, ensure all content reflects the agency’s voice, manage and improve the overall site experience (including a paywall for non‑clients), and optimize SEO across content hubs such as Substack and LinkedIn.

Additionally, this role requires someone who can bring data to life through visual storytelling.

What You’ll Do
Thought Leadership Design & Research Translation (50%)
  • Lead the design and execution of Horizon Futures’ thought leadership reports and flagship research—translating complex insights into clear, compelling, and visually sophisticated narratives.
  • Own visual storytelling across long‑form reports, frameworks, and POVs, including data visualization, layouts, charts, diagrams, and modular visual systems.
  • Partner closely with researchers and strategists to bring findings to life—shaping how insights are expressed, understood, and shared.
  • Apply strong editorial judgment to determine what deserves visual emphasis, how stories unfold, and how reports are structured for impact and usability.
  • Work fluently across advanced design tools and AI‑enabled workflows to accelerate ideation, visualization, and production while maintaining a high creative bar.
  • Ensure thought leadership outputs are presentation‑ready, press‑ready, and built for reuse across formats and channels.
Writing & Editing (30%)
  • Edit and refine a wide range of content, including research reports, articles, case studies, frameworks, and agency POVs; some writing required.
  • Apply a consistent tone of voice across thought leadership—from deep research reports to short‑form commentary.
  • Ensure clarity, cohesion, and quality across all written materials, including grammar, structure, and formatting.
  • Collaborate with team members to develop and elevate writing quality where needed.
  • Ensure alignment with the brand style guide across both content and design execution.
Platform Management & Distribution (10%)
  • Manage the Horizon Futures content site and publishing workflows (WordPress familiarity a plus).
  • Publish and optimize thought leadership for discoverability, including SEO best practices.
  • Track and share key performance metrics related to content reach, engagement, and behavior.
  • Support platform evolution, including content organization, UX improvements, and feedback loops.
Agency Collaboration & Stewardship (10%)
  • Partner with legal to ensure compliant data, image, and source usage.
  • Solicit, shape, and adapt thought leadership from across the agency, including elevating internal work into public‑facing narratives.
  • Coordinate with project managers and stakeholders to ensure timelines, expectations, and quality standards are met.
  • Proactively bring new ideas for thought leadership, formats, and storytelling approaches to the table.
Preferred Skills & Experience
  • 5–7 years’ experience in a relevant writing/editing role (newsroom experience a plus).
  • Skilled across different content types, passionate about storytelling, a self‑starter, and a master at effective communication.
  • Exceptional copywriting and editing skills, with the ability to distill nuanced ideas into concise, audience‑driven communication.
  • Social/Digital expert with a passion for knowledge of the latest platforms, tools, best practices, and demonstrated ability to drive innovative, engaging content that meets business needs.
  • Strong experience using digital communications in corporate environments, including content creation/curation and site management.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and deliver in a fast‑paced, deadline‑oriented environment.
  • Self‑starter, driven and incredibly detail‑oriented; strong client focus, excellent team player, exceptional interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle highly confidential information with sensitivity, integrity, and good judgment.
  • Data‑minded with the ability to edit and write for research findings.
  • Self‑directed, strategic learner with the ability to work collaboratively and cross‑functionally.
  • Strong project management, time management, and organizational skills with the ability to manage numerous competing priorities.
  • Proven ability to operate both strategically and tactically in a high‑energy, fast‑paced environment.
Salary Range
