Union: IBEW 89

Hourly Rate: $17.24 to $40.19 DOE

Job Summary

The Sr. Construction Technician builds customer relationships and provides technical solutions through our products and services. As a brand ambassador of Ziply Fiber, this role delivers excellent customer service and technical expertise to resolve telecommunication issues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Utilize test equipment to install products and isolate trouble effectively.
• Support, install, and repair company products and services.
• Install and maintain inside wiring for residential and business broadband (HSI/Video).
• Install Central Office and B-box junctions for broadband continuity and related equipment.
• Install wireless home networking equipment, including FTTH.
• Use automated dispatch and broadband test equipment; read and understand service orders and trouble tickets.
• Perform preventive maintenance on aerial, buried, and underground cables.
• Use internal programs and dispatch tools to complete assignments.
• Set up and demonstrate applications on customer computers; read outside plant drawings.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience with Fiber Optic construction, maintenance, and heavy equipment operation.
• At least 5 years in telecommunications installation and maintenance.
• Certifications in equipment such as Nortel, DMS10, ADTRAN, etc., are preferred.
• Knowledge of splicing, cable testing, and safety equipment.
• Basic AC/DC theory knowledge.
• Valid driver’s license; CDL may be required.

• Ability to climb, work at heights, and in confined spaces.
• Remain calm under stress; demonstrate good judgment.
• Strong communication skills; active listening; decision-making and problem-solving.
• Effective verbal and written communication.
• Ability to interpret drawings, maps, and technical instructions.
• Proficiency with splicing and testing equipment.
• Operate various tools and vehicles safely.
• Math skills; professional appearance; responsible driving.

Physical Requirements:

Must frequently stand, walk, climb, and lift objects over 50 lbs. Must perform all functions of operating a motor vehicle safely. Reasonable accommodations may be provided for disabilities.

Work Environment:

Work may involve extreme temperatures, heights, confined spaces, and noise. Work is generally in well-lighted, ventilated areas unless in emergency situations.
