Job summary

Mortenson Construction seeks a Superintendent II to coordinate, plan, and supervise assistant superintendents, contractors, and craft activities within a discipline. You’ll develop customer relationships through excellent service and oversee safety, quality, and project performance.

Responsibilities include scheduling, plan coordination with engineers, and site logistics. Requires 8+ years in construction management, a valid driver’s license, and willingness to travel up to 100%.

Qualifications

• Must have an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, or Architectural Engineering or Construction Management, or 10 years of trade experience.
• Minimum 8 years construction management or related experience.
• Current driver’s license.
• Ability to fulfill development to closeout responsibilities for multiple, complex projects.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to organize and manage multiple project tasks.
• Basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices.
• Intermediate Microsoft Office skills.
• Positive and professional attitude with strong customer service skills.
• Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies.
• Active listening skills and effective communication including openness to diverse input and feedback.
• Ability to travel up to 100%

Responsibilities

• Plan and implement to ensure all materials, equipment, and inspections support the project schedule.
• Review construction and contract documents for completeness and constructability.
• Coordinate plans and specifications with design engineers, resolving discrepancies.
• Develop and manage project schedules, including three and six-week look-ahead schedules.
• Develop a site logistics plan and manage the utilization of Mortenson tools and equipment.
• Collaborate with project partner superintendents.
• Conduct on-site project orientations, pre-construction planning sessions, and project site meetings.
• Supervise project partners, craft foremen, and crews; interview, hire, transfer, and terminate craft team members as needed.
• Coach and mentor assistant superintendents, craft team members, and other project team members.
• Ensure proper task coding of work hours on timecards, track work progress and craft productivity.
• Handle craft team member training and conduct career development discussions.
• Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels.
• Lead team members by example, offer effective coaching and feedback, and manage performance.
• Provide high-level management of safety, quality, risk, and compliance for the project and team members.
• Recognize and mitigate unfavorable working conditions and identify opportunities to improve processes and procedures.
