Job summary

Jobot is seeking a Senior Project Accountant to join its finance team in Chicago. You will own the financial health of large-scale construction projects from inception through closeout and partner directly with Project Managers and leadership.

You will manage project billing, costs, WIP, and revenue recognition while supporting audits and process improvements. Excellent growth and mentorship opportunities available.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
• 5+ years of construction project accounting experience.
• Knowledge of GAAP, %-of-completion accounting, WIP schedules, job costing, contract billing, and revenue recognition.

Responsibilities

• Manage project setup, budgets, cost codes, contract values, change orders, and billing within construction accounting systems.
• Prepare and submit owner billings, including AIA payment applications, schedules of values, retainage, stored materials, and supporting documentation.
• Monitor project costs, commitments, subcontractor activity, and job profitability throughout the project lifecycle.
• Perform monthly project reconciliations, WIP reporting, revenue recognition support, and month-end close activities.
• Partner with Project Managers to review job costs, forecast project performance, analyze margins, and identify financial risks.
• Track subcontractor compliance, including lien waivers, insurance certificates, certified payroll, bonds, and required documentation.
• Support cash flow management through billing, collections, subcontractor payments, and retention tracking.
• Prepare financial reporting, variance analyses, and ad hoc reports for project teams and executive leadership.
• Assist with project closeout, internal and external audits, process improvements, and mentoring junior accounting staff.
