Job summary

Gilbane is seeking a Sr. Purchasing Agent to lead the purchasing process for a mega-project or multiple projects in Detroit, MI.

You will coordinate bid packages, contracts, procurement strategies, and vendor relationships to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery. This role demands a strong negotiator with experience in construction procurement, DOSB initiatives, risk management, and mentoring junior staff within a collaborative, people-first culture.

Qualifications

• Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
• Public speaking and leading meetings with confidence.
• Knowledge of construction law, contracts, risk management, and DOSB implications.
• Ability to drive risk mitigation and coordinate with risk management teams.
• Experience in procurement and estimating processes within construction.
• Ability to mentor staff and apply strategic procurement under multi-project environments.

Responsibilities

• Manage multi-project bid processes from kickoff to award, including bid package scope and evaluation.
• Prepare and enter contracts and procurement change orders; negotiate terms and ensure compliance.
• Identify market conditions, trade contractors, and DOSB opportunities across projects.
• Develop and maintain relationships with trade contractors, vendors and jobsite personnel.
• Expand the master bid list and local partner networks; identify DOSB partners.
• Provide guidance to operations on purchasing processes and training of personnel.
