Job summary

Froehling & Robertson, Inc. (F&R) is seeking a Senior Field Technician to travel to construction sites for inspections and basic field soil and concrete tests. You will supervise other technicians to ensure work meets project specifications and safety standards.

The role requires 4+ years of relevant experience, a high school diploma or equivalent, and certifications in soils, concrete, and masonry. Expect travel, lifting up to 70 lbs, and working outside in varying temperatures.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Strong ability to read plans and specifications.
• Maintains ACI Level I Concrete, State DOT, WACEL, ICC certifications or willing to obtain.
• Ability to interpret calculations and test results in the field.

Responsibilities

• Performs and supervises complex field tasks and tests.
• Trains and supervises technicians on projects.
• Lifts, carries, pushes, and pulls up to 70 lbs regularly.
• Prepares detailed field reports with test results and observations.
• Evaluates site and subgrade conditions; provides recommendations.
• Communicates with clients, contractors, and staff on issues.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Who we are looking for:

The Senior Field Technician position is responsible for helping to ensure public safety by traveling to construction sites to inspect the contractor's work, and perform basic field soil and concrete tests while supervising other technicians to verify the work is performed in accordance with project specifications.

What you’ll be doing:

• Performs and supervises complex work tasks
• Responsible for training and supervision of technicians and/or large projects
• Lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling up to 70 lbs. on a regular basis
• Preparing detailed and complete field reports with all relevant test results and inspections/observations provided
• Evaluating site and subgrade conditions on construction projects and providing recommendations
• Communicating with clients, contractors, and engineering and technician staff regarding construction issues
• Other duties as assigned

What you need to have:

• 4+ years of relevant experience
• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Thorough technical knowledge of testing requirements
• Maintenance of ACI Level I Concrete, State DOT, WACEL, or ICC certifications in the disciplines of soils, reinforced concrete, and masonry.
• Completed technical training
• Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
• Ability to apply basic mathematical formulas and concepts to calculate quantities, estimate volumes, inspect constructed work, make recommendations in the field and to perform calculations for field and laboratory tests and equipment
• Ability to multi-task and meat deadlines
• Ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams to achieve goals
• Excellent attention to details
• Valid driver’s license and good-standing driving record
• Some travel will be required
• Must be willing to participate in and pass F&R’s pre-employment screening including a background investigation, drug screening and driving record
• Ability to continuously stand and walk throughout the day
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 70 lbs. on a regular basis
• Ability to work outside in frequent changes of temperatures
• Ability to occasionally bend, squat, kneel, climb, push, and pull
• Ability to work in environments containing dust and fumes
