Job summary

The City of Norfolk is seeking a Construction Inspector III in the Field Engineering Branch of the Engineering and Technology Division. You will oversee water and wastewater construction projects, document work, ensure compliance with plans and regulations, and interface with contractors and citizens.

Essential duties include site inspections, project administration, and assisting in training other inspectors while maintaining safety and quality on challenging projects.

Qualifications

• Two-year associate degree or equivalent from a college, technical, or vocational school.
• Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training.
• Three years' experience in construction or related field.
• Virginia Certification in Erosion and Sediment Control Inspection is required.
• OSHA 10 Certification is desired.

Responsibilities

• Visit and inspect job sites to ensure compliance with plans, specs, and contracts.
• Review process payment applications and invoices for accuracy; prepare documentation.
• Coordinate projects with utility companies and other agencies; communicate with citizens and city staff.
• Supervise inspectors and assist in training; participate in safety/training coordination.
