Senior Construction Inspector - Transportation / Bridge

Job Overview

Whitman, Requardt & Associates, LLP (WRA) is seeking experienced Senior Construction Inspectors with expertise in bridge and roadway construction to join our expanding team. With a strong pipeline of contracts, you will contribute to high-profile infrastructure projects across VDOT’s Fredericksburg District.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee contractor operations to ensure compliance with contract documents, design specifications, and permits.
• Coordinate inspection activities across multiple work crews.
• Track daily work quantities and maintain detailed inspection documentation.
• Prepare reports, estimates, and as-built drawings.
• Conduct field inspections and materials testing, maintaining logs.
• Review and validate contractor pay estimates.
• Support project engineers with data, sketches, and reports.
• Maintain project diaries and document issues.
• Review contractor schedules and communicate with stakeholders.
• Maintain a proactive, solution-oriented approach throughout construction phases.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• 6+ years of hands-on inspection experience in roadway, bridge, utility construction, or pavement rehabilitation.
• Proficiency in interpreting plans and technical drawings.
• Strong communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean record.
• Ability to work night shifts and overtime.
• Computer skills in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Certifications & Training (Required)

• VDOT materials certifications in Asphalt, Soils and Aggregate, Pavement Marking.
• VDOT Intermediate Work Zone Safety or ATSSA Traffic Control Supervisor.
• WACEL or ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I.

Preferred Qualifications

• Additional VDOT certifications (GRIT, Slurry, Surface Treatment).
• DEQ Erosion & Sediment Control Inspector.
• DEQ Stormwater Management Inspector.
• OSHA-10 Construction Safety.
• Experience with e-Construction platforms (PlanGrid, Procore, etc.).
• Bachelor’s degree or advanced certifications.
