Job summary

Artheon is seeking an experienced Senior Construction Inspector to join our team on projects located in New Jersey, focusing on heavy highway, bridges, and road construction. You will inspect contractor work to ensure compliance with plans, specs, and safety regulations, while maintaining daily logs and material testing documentation.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of highway/bridge inspection experience, NICET III in Highway Construction, and NJ certifications.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil engineering preferred and NICET III required.
• State certifications ACI/TCC/CCTC/NJSAT are required.
• Minimum 5+ years in heavy highway/bridge construction inspection.
• Experience on NJDOT/NJTA projects is required.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Monitor contractor operations and verify conformance with plans.
• Serve as on-site highway inspector for work by contractor and subs.
• Prepare daily reports, change orders, and payment estimates.
• Document field activities with photos and data transfers.
• Ensure compliance with technical standards and codes.
• Coordinate with project team daily and discuss project status.

Senior Construction Inspector - Transportation

Compensation: $50.00 - $65.00 / hour

Description

Artheon is seeking an experienced Senior Construction Inspector to join our team working on projects located in the State of New Jersey for various state and regional agencies. Primary responsibilities will be inspecting heavy highway, bridge, and road projects to ensure contractors comply with project plans, specifications, and safety regulations. Key duties include daily site inspections, material testing, maintaining daily logs of materials and project progress, and ensuring compliance with Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MPT) standards.

Responsibilities

• Monitors contractor operations and verifying conformance with project plans and specifications
• Serves as the on‑site highway inspector for construction work performed by the contractor and subcontractors
• Interacts with the construction contractor’s site supervision on field activities to ensure compliance with the construction contract requirements
• Prepares daily reports, correspondence, change orders, periodic payment estimates, and quantity computations
• Observes details of work performed by others, documenting results; obtaining photographic documentation of work performed
• Confirms compliance with technical documents and industry‑specific standards and codes
• Reviews and downloads field data into laptop computer and transfer to company server
• Discusses projects with project team on a daily basis
• Makes accurate judgment‑calls on a variety of construction field activities
• Will work night shifts and weekends, as required
• Performs other like duties, as assigned

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil engineering is preferred
• NICET Level III in Highway Construction certification is required
• ACI, TCC, CCTC, and NJSAT certifications required
• 5+ years of experience in heavy highway/bridge construction inspection
• Experience with NJDOT / NJTA projects required
• OSHA 10‑hour safety course is required
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Good time‑management skills
• Ability to perform under pressure
• Good skills in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
• A strong attention to detail is necessary
