Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT) is seeking a Senior Construction Inspector to join our Trenton Construction Services Team. The successful candidate will supervise construction inspection activities, review plans and specifications, and ensure compliance with safety and environmental requirements on projects in the region.

The successful candidate will act as a principal inspector responsible for supervising construction inspection engineering work on projects.

Compensation is $50.00–$65.00 per hour, commensurate with experience, education, and certifications.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Coordinate and supervise project inspection activities, reviewing contractor compliance with plans, contract documents, specifications and standards
• Assign, schedule and manage subordinate inspection staff throughout all phases of the project
• Review and maintain all pertinent project documentation, ensuring it accurately details construction progress, activities and materials, complies with environmental permitting conditions, safety policies and programs, and monitors EEO and DBE progress and performance
• Prepare, review and submit project inspection reports, work authorizations, work orders and estimates
• Notify contractors of non‑compliance and corrective action
• Assist in reviewing, analyzing and evaluating contractor schedules
• Track project progress and advise parties of possible overruns and critical project issues
• Complete analysis of field tests
• Attend pre‑bid, pre‑construction and management‑level meetings, assist the client with estimates, change orders, claim defense, shop drawings, RFIs, sub‑consultants, material testing and provide updates to the client on construction progress and issues
• Interact with the general public, government agencies, contractors, sub‑contractors, and other internal and external parties to respond to inquiries
• Work on behalf of the client to draft project correspondence, facilitate project meetings, and resolve construction‑related field issues

Required Skills

Required Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent
• NICET III or equivalent experience
• 5–10 years of construction inspection experience
• Client‑requested certifications (NJSAT, ACI, TCC, OSHA)
• Knowledge and experience in construction techniques, reading plans, procedures, methods, equipment and materials
• Supervisory experience in construction management/inspection situations
• Ability to act in an Owner’s Agent/Responsible in Charge role

Preferred Experience

• Experience with NJTA, NJDOT and local clients
• Associate or bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering or engineering technology
• Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) a plus

Working Conditions

Work is performed in the field. The incumbent must be able to perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lb. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
