Job summary

The City of Spring Hill Kansas is seeking a Construction Inspector to supervise grading operations and conduct inspections of sidewalks, streets, and public utilities. You will review engineering plans, act as a liaison between contractors, city staff, and residents, and assist with emergency operations as needed.

Ideal candidates have strong math and technical reading skills, knowledge of public works practices, and ability to work with multiple stakeholders under evolving priorities.

Qualifications

• Basic math and measurement skills.
• Ability to read and interpret technical specs, laws, and codes related to capital improvement projects.
• Knowledge of modern public works practices, materials, methods, and safety hazards.
• Proficient with word processing and spreadsheets; able to use scheduling tools.

Responsibilities

• Review project plans and contract documents for conformance with city specs.
• Attend pre-construction conferences to discuss methods and testing requirements.
• Inspect sidewalks, curbs, sewers, water mains and street construction for compliance.
• Maintain inspection records and coordinate with contractors and city staff.
• Communicate with citizens, contractors, and other departments; prepare notices and documents.
