Job description

Senior Paving Construction Inspector

WSP is a leading engineering firm serving New England communities. We seek an experienced Senior Paving Construction Inspector to oversee urban and rural pavement rehabilitation or preservation projects valued from $1 to $25 million. This role can be based in Portland, Augusta or Eliot, ME, or Merrimack, NH.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee asphalt shimming, milling, reclaiming, filling, compacting, drainage improvements, striping, and incidental items.
  • Interface with contractors and attend project meetings.
  • Mentor and supervise other inspectors on behalf of the Resident Engineer or project manager.
  • Complete daily reports, measure and calculate unit price quantities.
  • Coordinate independent material sampling and testing.
  • Monitor maintenance of traffic and take/combine photographs for daily progress tracking.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.
Qualifications – Required
  • High School Diploma.
  • 7 years of applicable experience in paving construction inspection.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret shop drawings, design plans, and specifications.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and compliance with WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
Qualifications – Preferred
  • Associate of Science degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Proficiency with MS Word suite.
  • NETTCP HMA certifications, or ability to attain within three months of hiring.
  • Experience with construction management software such as Site or Field Manager, APPIA, Procore, IPD, or similar systems, and knowledge of Bluebeam.
  • Any combination of college education, professional licenses, certifications, and experience will be considered.
