WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Construction Inspector for work located in the Fredericksburg, VA area. Specifically, the towns of Saluda & Northern Neck

Your Impact
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Inspect and review work in accordance with applicable codes and standards included in the project drawings and specifications including roadway, bridge, paving, drainage, electrical, ITS to ensure compliance with contract documents, specifications, standards and codes.
- Interpret roadway and bridge plans, building plans, specifications, and contracts.
- Monitor, observe, and report on field quality control and quality assurance for materials testing activities and/or conduct routine field tests on construction materials such as slump test, air content test, and compaction tests.
- Keep detailed records of contractor’s performance and progress.
- Measure and record material placed for periodic contractor payments.
- Conduct “receiving inspections” when material is delivered to the project to verify that the materials received by the contractor are accompanied by documentation noted by the source of supply and are in conformance with the contract documents.
- Create and maintain daily inspection reports and project documentation/logs that describe the number of employees on a job site, amount of work performed, materials used, weather conditions, accidents, and equipment use.
- Utilize construction management software such as AASHTO’s Field Manager, ProCore, or Primavera Contract Manager.
- Recognize construction problems and apply standard techniques and procedures to solve them.
- May recommend field changes to drawings and specifications.
- Work effectively as a team member without close supervision.
- Maintain daily contact with clients and contractors to discuss construction activities.
- Attend construction meetings with clients and contractors as needed.
- Work in various weather conditions and terrains; availability for nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Who You Are
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 9 years of experience in inspection or highway and/or building construction, with pavement experience preferred.
- Full VDOT Certification including Asphalt Field Levels I and II, Work Zone Traffic Control - Intermediate, Pavement Markings, Concrete Field Certification, Guardrail Installers Training (GRIT), Slurry Surfacing, Surface Treatment, Soil and Aggregate Compaction, Nuclear Gauge Safety plus HAZMAT, and Intermediate Work Zone & Flagger.
- OSHA-10 certification.
- VA DEQ Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector Level and Storm Water Management Inspector Level.
- Working knowledge of safety, environmental guidelines, and regulations.
- Valid driver’s license and dependable transportation.
- Proficient in math and English, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to operate computer equipment and software, read and interpret plans and specifications, and maintain detailed records.
- Responsible decision-making and adherence to WSP’s Code of Conduct and policies.
- Proven safety record and compliance with health, safety, and harassment policies.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Successful completion of WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with VDOT and/or local agencies.
- Active construction management certifications or the ability to acquire them, including certifications in Concrete, Asphalt, Fall Protection, Confined Space, OSHA Safety, Work Zone Traffic Control, DEQ Erosion & Sediment Control, and Stormwater.
- Additional certifications such as WACEL, ICC, NICET, NACE, and CMIT are advantageous.
- Experience with interstate construction and inspection.
