Job summary

The NYC Department of Buildings seeks an Inspector (Construction) to manage inspection activities for conformity with NYC Construction Codes, Department rules, and approved plans. The role includes supervising inspectors, coordinating with divisions and agencies, and testifying when required.

Eligible candidates have construction experience, relevant licensure (PE/RA or Site Safety Manager), or substantial related education, and may participate in the Remote Work Pilot Program for up to two days

Qualifications

• Two years of full-time satisfactory experience working in the construction trades or as an inspector of building construction.
• A license as a professional engineer or registered architect issued pursuant to the New York State Education law or a license as a Site Safety Manager issued by the NYC Department of Buildings.
• Education or training that supports construction management, engineering, architecture, or related field.

Responsibilities

• Assist in managing a unit responsible for conducting efficient inspection work to attain target goals.
• Supervise a team of Supervising Inspectors who manage field inspectors in their daily duties.
• Explain and enforce laws and rules relevant to the field.
• Meet with inspectors regularly to resolve concerns and review unit operations.
• Plan and conduct special surveys and investigations.

Education

Sixty credits towards a degree in civil engineering, engineering technology, architecture, architectural technology, construction management, or a closely related field
