Job summary

Great Lakes Engineering Group is seeking a Construction Senior Technician to support MDOT projects in the Metro-Detroit and Lansing areas. The role involves field inspection, documentation, and coordination of surveying and testing for highways, bridges, and transportation facilities using e-construction processes.

The position requires leadership of staff, strong communication with clients and contractors, and a willingness to work extended hours.

Qualifications

• MDOT experience preferred (15 years) and related education.
• Associates in Construction Management or Civil Engineering.
• Proficient with MDOT documentation requirements (AASHTOware Project and Field Manager/FieldBook).
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).
• MDOT construction and materials testing training/certifications are a plus (ACI MCA certifications).

Responsibilities

• Provide mentorship and staff leadership for project teams.
• Inspect contractor work for highways, bridges, and transportation facilities.
• Review Daily Work Reports (DWRs) for accuracy and quantities.
• Coordinate surveying and testing needs with contractors and project team.
• Prepare daily documentation and drive-through project inspections to monitor progress.
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders and assist with office tasks as needed.
• Support marketing tasks related to future work and industry changes.
