Job summary

Barrett Paving Materials Inc is seeking an Estimator II to prepare bid estimates, develop proposals, and manage costs across construction projects. You will coordinate with engineers, owners, and subcontractors to ensure accurate estimates and timely bid packages.

The role requires a BS in civil engineering or construction management, 5+ years of estimator experience, and familiarity with highway project bids over $20M. Proficiency in HCSS HeavyBid is preferred.

Qualifications

• BS degree in civil engineering/construction management or equivalent relevant experience.
• Minimum of 5+ years progressive experience as an estimator/project manager.
• Experience with complete scope highway projects over $20M in contract value.
• Knowledge of OHSA regulations and local codes.

Responsibilities

• Analyze blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
• Assess cost effectiveness of projects or services, tracking actual costs as the project develops.
• Confer with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors on project plans, changes and adjustments to project estimates.
• Prepare estimates used by management for planning, organizing and scheduling work.
• Prepare estimates for use in selecting vendors or subcontractors.
• Develop construction means and methods, appropriate equipment, material use and application, crew sizing, and crew build-up.
• Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments or construction operations to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
• Develop estimates from various bid documents including bonding, insurance, indemnification, and damage clauses.
• Attend pre-bid and job site meetings.
• Negotiate project construction time and penalty clauses.
• Develop customer relationships to enhance bid opportunities.
• Maintain professional knowledge by attending workshops and reviewing publications.
• Track and report real time cost data and schedules relative to bid proposals as the project develops.
• Ensure adherence to local union CBA’s and prevailing wage guidelines per bid requirements.
• Conduct and/or attend pre-construction, progress and other project activities and staff meetings.
• Maintain liaison with Safety, Purchasing, QA, Engineering, Site Management, HR and IT departments.
• Review constructability/production analysis of bid documents and site conditions.
