Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to support the financial operations of an established construction company.

This is a key accounting leadership position for someone who understands the complexities of construction finance, including Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules, Percentage-of-Completion (POC) accounting, job costing, revenue recognition, and project financial reporting.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting expertise with a practical understanding of how construction projects operate financially. This individual will play an important role in maintaining accurate financial reporting, strengthening internal controls, and providing leadership with reliable financial information to support business decisions.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare, review, and maintain WIP schedules and percentage-of-completion calculations.
• Oversee construction job costing, cost allocations, and project financial reporting.
• Monitor project profitability, cost-to-complete estimates, and revenue recognition.
• Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
• Prepare and analyze financial statements, reconciliations, and management reports.
• Identify financial variances and work with operations teams to understand project performance.

Accounting Operations & Controls

• Support general ledger accuracy and accounting compliance.
• Oversee or assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and billing processes.
• Maintain internal controls, accounting procedures, and reporting accuracy.
• Support cash flow forecasting, budgeting, and financial planning.
• Assist with year-end audits and coordination with external accounting partners.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and financial reporting efficiency.

Business Partnership & Leadership

• Partner with project managers and operational leadership on project financial performance.
• Provide financial analysis to support business planning and decision-making.
• Help strengthen communication between accounting and construction operations.
• Support the Controller and senior leadership with financial reporting and special projects.

Required Qualifications

• Strong accounting experience within the construction industry.
• Demonstrated proficiency in WIP reporting and Percentage-of-Completion accounting.
• Solid understanding of construction job costing, project profitability, and revenue recognition.
• Experience with financial statements, general ledger accounting, and month-end close.
• Knowledge of construction accounting practices and applicable GAAP requirements.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with accounting, project management, and executive leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Previous experience as an Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, Construction Controller, or Senior Construction Accountant.
• Experience supporting a mid-sized construction company.
• Familiarity with construction ERP or accounting software.
