Job summary

Plona Partners is seeking a conflicts and risk management attorney to review new business COI reports, analyze potential conflicts, and guide resolution with partners and associates.

You will conduct targeted research, draft engagement letters, and oversee ethical walls and policy compliance, ensuring waivers are secured before opening matters. Active bar status and large-firm experience are required.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of law firm experience in risk management or corporate compliance.
• Active bar licensure in at least one state and in good standing.
• Experience in conflicts identification and clearance at a large law firm.
• Experience with researching jurisdiction-specific rules related to conflicts of interest.
• Experience with document management and conflicts systems such as iManage or Intapp Open.

Responsibilities

• Review and analyze new business conflict of interest reports, identify potential conflicts, and assist Partners/Associates in resolving them.
• Review lateral materials and conflict of interest reports and identify potential conflicts; assist Partners and Firm Management in resolving them.
• Provide concise summaries of potential conflict issues and steps required for resolution.
• Conduct online searches and use web-based research tools to determine information about potential representations.
• Discuss conflict of interest and loss prevention issues with Partners, Associates, and other staff to identify and resolve conflicts.
• Exercise discretion and independent professional judgment in identification and resolution of conflicts of interest.
• Draft clear engagement and waiver letters and follow up to ensure waivers are obtained before new clients/matters are opened.
• Review language in waiver and engagement letters to address conflicts concerns and engagement issues.
• Review outside counsel guidelines to identify deviations from Firm policies and address them with relevant Attorneys.
• Confirm need for ethical walls to screen individuals from clients and matters; manage and maintain firm processes for walls.
