Be a part of a company that thinks differently to solve problems, make progress, and deliver meaningful innovations.

The Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) Operating Unit offers devices and therapies that treat patients with abnormal heart rhythms and heart failure. We are comprised of three businesses:

  • Cardiac Pacing Therapies
  • Cardiovascular Diagnostics & Services
  • Defibrillation Solutions

This position will provide highly specialized computational modeling expertise in design and development of innovative products to treat cardiac diseases. The emphasis will be on modelling the electrophysiology of the heart and the interaction between cardiac function and medical devices in vivo. Bearing in mind first principles, the Senior Computational Modeling Engineer will understand business requirements, formulate a modeling approach that will address those requirements, independently carry out the modeling activities and provide concise communication of the results through technical reports and presentations. The ideal candidate must have sufficient knowledge and expertise in modeling cardiac electrophysiology.

This position is in Mounds View, MN. within the Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) operating unit. At Medtronic, we bring bold ideas forward with speed and decisiveness to put patients first in everything we do. In-person exchanges are invaluable to our work. We are working on-site 4 days per week as part of our commitment to fostering a culture of professional growth and cross-functional collaboration as we work together to engineer the extraordinary. This role will require less than 10% of travel to enhance collaboration and ensure successful completion of projects.

We believe that when people from different cultures, genders, and points of view come together, innovation is the result —and everyone wins. Medtronic walks the walk, creating an inclusive culture where you can thrive.

A Day in Life:

Perform theoretical and finite element analysis (FEA) and/or to predict cardiac system behavior under in vivo and in vitro types of load conditions. This individual will develop technical solutions to complex problems that require the regular use of creativity and critical thinking. In general, the following responsibilities apply for the Senior Computational Modeling Engineer role. This includes, but is not limited to the following:

  • Utilize FEA and other numerical techniques to develop electrophysiological cardiac models capable of capturing physiological effects and able to incorporate cardiac devices to assist in the design and evaluation of cardiac devices (e.g., Sensing, pacing, electric fields).
  • Together, with research & development members, identify research goals and best applicability of computational models.
  • Apply modeling tools to help design and develop new test methods and integrate new materials and processes.
  • Regularly update methods and implementation to improve efficiency, applicability, and to maintain state-of-the-art practices.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional product development teams to help bring products to market
