Job summary

University of Maryland’s Applied Research Lab for Intelligence & Security (ARLIS) seeks a Computational Linguist to advance NLP-focused research for national security applications. Qualifications

• Doctoral degree in a relevant field; accredited institution.
• 5 years of research experience.
• Background in computational linguistics/NLP.
• Experience with AI/ML tools and RAG pipelines, NER, sentiment analysis.
• Experience with Python AI/ML packages (Pandas, Numpy, BeautifulSoup, scikit-learn, spaCy, transformers, PyTorch).
• Experience leading applied research projects.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to government-sponsored projects addressing autonomy, decision support, cyber operations, and NLP.
• Prototyping, experimentation, and systems integration across research efforts.
• Field deployment or pilot activities as program needs dictate.
