Job summary

BETA Technologies, a leader in electric aviation, seeks a Composites Design Engineer to develop primary and secondary structures for an advanced narrowbody aircraft. Based onsite in South Burlington, VT, with hybrid options and occasional visits to Raleigh, NC, you will lead material selection, joints, and producibility considerations.

You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across stress, loads, and manufacturing, performing trades and test planning to drive design improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Five+ years of composite structural design or related aerospace product development experience.
• Proficiency with CATIA, 3DEXPERIENCE, or comparable CAD.
• Knowledge of prepreg, infusion, sandwich construction, bonded and bolted joints, composite failure modes, and manufacturing controls.
• Experience taking composite hardware through design, analysis, build, inspection, and test support.
• US Person to be considered for the role.

Responsibilities

• Develop composite structural concepts and 3D definitions for skins, spars, ribs, frames, panels, control surfaces, fairings, and integrated joints.
• Perform laminate, sandwich, bonded/joint, stability, and preliminary strength trades to guide configuration and sizing.
• Select material forms, processes, tooling approaches, design details, and inspection strategies aligned with production rate, quality, weight, cost, and schedule.
• Define composite-metallic interfaces, environmental protection, drainage, lightning-protection integration, damage-tolerance features, and repair provisions.
• Coordinate with Stress, Structures Design, Loads, Materials & Processes, Manufacturing, Quality, NDT, Test, suppliers, and team counterparts.
• Support coupon, element, subcomponent, and full-scale test planning and translate results into design improvements.
• Create configuration-controlled CAD, drawings, specifications, trade studies, and design-review material.
