Job Description
Reporting to the Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer, the Senior Compliance Officer, Global R&D and Tech Ops is a senior member of the Ethics, Compliance, and Privacy department who will play a critical role in advancing the company's strategy and commitment to compliance and ethics by reliably and proactively identifying, mitigating, and managing compliance and privacy related risks within those departments.
The Senior Compliance Officer, Global R&D and Tech Ops will have extensive knowledge of laws and regulations relevant to R&D activities, including the False Claims Act, Anti-kickback Statute, anti‑bribery and anti‑corruption laws, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, HIPAA, GDPR, and ethical decision making within clinical trial protocols.
Responsibilities
- Serves as strategic business partner and risk advisor to R&D and Tech Ops departments across countries and therapeutic areas, providing regular updates on compliance risk areas, mitigation strategies, and dashboards evidencing compliance program effectiveness.
- Provides compliance advice and support to the R&D and Tech Ops, identifying, mitigating and managing fraud and abuse and kickback risks associated with clinical trial and other development activities; ethical decision‑making in clinical trial protocol, strategy, and design, and trade sanctions related risks.
- Serves as the subject‑matter expert and coordinates and collaborates with the Senior Compliance Officer, Global Policies, Education, and Investigations to develop global compliance and ethics policies and associated training and education materials for the R&D and Tech Ops departments.
- Regularly conducts compliance training.
- Works with Senior Compliance Officer, Monitoring, Auditing, and Third‑Party Risk Management to inform the design and implementation of an effective monitoring and audit program in support of R&D and Tech Ops, focusing on compliance oversight of CRO and other partners.
- Works as a key member of the Ethics, Compliance, and Privacy lead team, coordinating with other lead team members to advance the department's goals and objectives and drive consistency across the company.
- Stays informed on new laws, regulations, and industry trends, ensuring that new developments are reflected in compliance controls for R&D and Tech Ops.
- Coordinates and collaborates with the Legal department supporting R&D and Tech Ops.
- Assists Ethics, Compliance, and Privacy department colleagues with projects and activities outside of primary responsibilities as needed to achieve corporate objectives.
Requirements
- 8+ years of relevant compliance experience, supporting pharmaceutical or biotech companies with at least 2 years in the R&D organization of a global pharmaceutical company.
- Solid judgment and business acumen, and understanding of R&D and Tech Ops strategies with ability to assess compliance risks and mitigation strategies.
- Solid understanding of laws and regulations governing the pharmaceutical/healthcare industry, especially R&D and Tech Ops, with experience supporting global pharmaceutical operations.
- Experience working across multiple functions and geographies, high responsiveness, strong customer service orientation.
- Excellent communication skills, enthusiastic, self‑motivated, efficient, able to handle heavy workload, proactive in identifying business needs and managing responsibilities independently and in teamwork.
- Ability to work accurately with a sense of urgency and function efficiently in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills: diplomacy, flexibility, collaboration, ability to interface at all levels of the organization and with external parties, adaptable to culture variety.
- Travel required.
Compensation and Benefits
For US‑based candidates only, base salary range is $230,400.00 – $345,600.00. Base pay depends on qualifications and experience. The candidate may be eligible for discretionary annual cash bonus, optional equity grants, and benefit offerings including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and flexible paid vacation.
