Job summary

Ten Strands is seeking a Senior Communications Manager to lead day‑to‑day organizational communications as a department of one, partnering with leadership to translate strategy into compelling stories. You will support the programs team, manage content across website, newsletters, social channels, and collaborates with fund development to share impact with educators, policymakers, and donors.

This remote-first role is based in California; in-person retreats and board meetings may require on-site

Qualifications

• 8+ years of progressively responsible communications experience.
• Experience managing communications projects or campaigns across multiple channels.
• Experience translating goals into plans, messaging, storytelling, and content.
• Experience coordinating with consultants, vendors, or support staff.
• Experience in education, environmental/climate, nonprofit, public policy, or related fields preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary communications partner to the programs team, supporting educator-facing outreach, professional learning and curriculum promotion, events, and program storytelling.
• Coordinate advocacy communications with leadership and coalitions during legislative cycles, including messaging, coalition communications, and op-ed support.
• Partner with fund development on donor communications, annual report, and impact stories.
• Develop, edit, and publish collateral across digital and print channels; manage website content, newsletters, social media, presentations.
