Job summary

City of Visalia is seeking a Senior Communications Operator to supervise daily shift operations and coordinate emergency communications for the Visalia Police Department. The role involves overseeing staffing, scheduling, budgeting, training, mentoring and performance assessments.

Ideal candidates have 911 dispatch experience in law enforcement, a valid California driver’s license, and relevant POST certifications. Availability for nights, weekends and holidays is required.

Qualifications

• Two years of 911 dispatch experience with a law enforcement agency within the last four years.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Possession of a California P.O.S.T. Public Safety Dispatcher Certificate.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a CTO Certificate within 18 months of appointment.
• Keyboarding speed of 40 CWPM.
• Valid California Driver's License by time of appointment.

Responsibilities

• Receive and transmit routine and emergency telephone and radio traffic.
• Dispatch and coordinate police, fire, and animal control.
• Oversee daily shift operations and assist with staffing, scheduling and budgeting.
• Supervise, train and assess employee performance; prepare written documents.
