Job summary

Global Medical Response is seeking a Communication System Engineer to support, maintain, and improve our land mobile radio and RoIP infrastructure. You will work across field operations, communications centers, aviation support, and IT teams to ensure reliable emergency communications.

The role requires 5+ years in LMR, strong troubleshooting, RoIP experience, and FCC licensing familiarity. Travel across CA is expected; position offers a comprehensive benefits package and competitive salary.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of Land Mobile Radio (LMR) experience supporting conventional and trunked systems.
• Strong radio troubleshooting—RF, network, console, antenna, repeater, power, and ISS issues.
• RoIP experience with Motorola WAVE, ESChat, JPS, NXU gateways, or similar.
• IP networking knowledge including TCP/IP, routing, switching, VPNs, WANs.
• Dispatch console experience with MCC7500, Mindshare, Avtec or similar.
• Field and tower-site travel up to 50–75% as required.
• Vendor and carrier coordination with tower owners, ISPs, and contractors.
• Radio programming: talk groups, templates, frequency plans, code plugs.
• Public safety/EMS/aviation comms experience.
• FCC licensing, frequency coordination, and regulatory compliance knowledge.
• Experience with Motorola ASTRO 25, SmartZone, P25 trunked systems.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot LMR systems and dispatch infrastructure.
• Monitor and resolve radio system outages across EMS and dispatch operations.
• Perform testing, coverage validation, and post-repair verifications.
• Travel to tower sites and facilities for inspections and maintenance.
• Coordinate repairs with tower owners, vendors, and service providers.
• Document systems, CMDB records, and preventative maintenance actions.
• Support RoIP, WAVE, ESChat, and related interoperability projects.
• Provide 24/7 incident support and assist in outage management.
