Job summary

Global Medical Response is seeking a Communication System Engineer in California to support, maintain, and enhance land mobile radio, RoIP, and dispatch radio infrastructure across field operations and centers. The role entails hands-on technical support for tower-site equipment, radios, and IT networking, with extensive travel across the state.

The position focuses on ensuring reliable emergency communications, with duties including configuration, testing, outage resolution, and documentation

Qualifications

• 5+ years of Land Mobile Radio (LMR) experience supporting conventional and trunked radio systems.
• Strong Radio Troubleshooting Skills to isolate RF, network, console, antenna, repeater, power, and ISP issues quickly.
• Radio over IP (RoIP) experience with Motorola WAVE, ESChat, JPS, NXU gateways, or similar platforms.
• IP Networking knowledge: TCP/IP, routing, switching, VPNs, VLANs, WAN circuits.
• Dispatch Console experience with MCC7500, Mindshare, Avtec, or similar systems.
• Willingness to travel 50-75% as required.
• FCC licensing coordination and regulatory compliance experience.
• Radio programming including talk groups, templates, frequency plans, code plugs, and permissions.
• Experience in Public Safety / EMS / Aviation communications environments.
• Documentation and project management skills to maintain CMDB records and project plans.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot LMR systems, base stations, dispatch consoles, and associated infrastructure.
• Monitor and resolve radio system outages impacting EMS and dispatch operations.
• Travel to tower sites and facilities for inspections and maintenance.
• Coordinate repairs with tower owners, vendors, and service providers.
• Troubleshoot network components, routers, firewalls, and gateways supporting radio systems.
• Manage procurement, quotes, POs, and vendor coordination.
• Support integration projects and RoIP deployment initiatives.
• Document radio systems, assets, and CMDB records.
