Meyers Manx in Southern California is seeking a Senior Commodity Manager to lead strategic sourcing of key commodity categories, develop supplier relationships, negotiate contracts, and drive cost-saving initiatives.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of commodity purchasing experience in automotive/manufacturing.
  • 10+ years in legacy OEM environments preferred.
  • Experience sourcing metals, plastics, electronics, or raw materials.
  • Should-costing and cost analysis expertise.
  • Familiarity with SAP and ERP systems and advanced Excel.
  • Strong negotiation and supplier management skills.
  • Excellent communication and analytical abilities.

Job Summary

As a Senior Commodity Manager, you will be responsible for leading the strategic sourcing of key commodity categories. You will develop and manage supplier relationships, negotiate contracts, and drive cost-saving initiatives. Your role will involve collaborating cross-functionally with engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure the supply of materials that meet cost, quality, and delivery requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Sourcing & Commodity Management: Lead the sourcing strategy for assigned commodities, ensuring alignment with overall business goals and production needs. Develop and implement long-term sourcing strategies to optimize cost, quality, and supply chain efficiency.
  • Supplier Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong, effective relationships with key suppliers. Evaluate supplier performance and conduct regular reviews to ensure adherence to quality, delivery, and pricing standards.
  • Negotiation & Contract Management: Lead negotiations for pricing, terms, and contract agreements with suppliers, ensuring optimal cost savings while maintaining high standards for quality and delivery.
  • Cost Management & Cost Reduction: Drive cost-reduction initiatives by identifying and implementing innovative sourcing strategies and value engineering opportunities. Analyze total cost of ownership (TCO) and lead efforts to reduce total cost across the supply chain.
  • Risk Management: Proactively assess and mitigate supply chain risks, including market fluctuations, geopolitical risks, and supplier-related challenges.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to understand material specifications, production schedules, and quality requirements. Work closely with the supply chain team to ensure on-time delivery of materials.
  • Market Analysis: Monitor global commodity markets to anticipate price trends and supply chain disruptions. Provide insights to management on market conditions and potential impact on material costs and availability.
  • Travel: Travel up to 30% of time, and as necessary to meet business goals.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field is desired.
  • Experience: Minimum of 8 years of experience in commodity purchasing, preferably in the automotive or manufacturing industry. Previous experience in sourcing and managing commodities such as metals, plastics, electronics, or raw materials is highly desirable. Candidates with 10 or more years of traditional big legacy OEM’s preferred. Background from nimble, fast-paced, low volume environments and possibly (successful) start-ups.
  • Technical Skills: Strong understanding of automotive manufacturing processes and cost analysis including should-costing. Familiarity with supplier management software, ERP systems (e.g., SAP), and advanced Excel skills.
  • Negotiation Skills: Proven ability to negotiate with suppliers to secure competitive pricing, favorable terms, and optimal contract agreements.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills to assess market trends, supplier performance, and commodity risks. Ability to interpret complex data and make data-driven decisions.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to manage supplier relationships and work cross-functionally with various teams.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to managing supply chain challenges.
